About

FUNDRAISING AND PHILANTHROPY CONSULTANT

During the past two decades as an independent consultant, I have worked with a wide variety of funding organizations to refine and improve their philanthropic policies and practices, as well as with non-profit
501(c )(3) organizations, providing a range of fundraising, board development, and strategic planning services. With each client, I customize my services after having analyzed their needs and strategic goals.

PHILANTHROPY PROFESSOR

I am an adjunct assistant professor in the Heyman Center for Philanthropy and Fundraising in the School of Continuing and Professional Studies at New York University, as well as a member of the Center’s Senior Staff. My areas of teaching expertise include: Annual and Capital Campaigns; the Psychology of Philanthropy and Fundraising; and the History and Philosophy of American Philanthropy. From 2002- 2007 I was also on faculty at Rutgers University in the American Studies Department.

CORPORATE PHILANTHROPY EXECUTIVE

As Manager of Community Programming at Chemical Bank, I represented the bank to the vast network of charitable agencies, corporations, foundations, and individuals working to improve New York City’s and our country’s quality of life. I directed over $10 million in contributions annually, worked with Bank senior management to formulate philanthropic policy and procedure, and provided technical assistance to organizations ranging from the smallest neighborhood groups to some of the region’s most venerable institutions. The underpinning of this work was “enlightened self-interest”; strategically advancing the Bank’s commercial objectives while concurrently demonstrating its corporate social responsibility.

COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER

As a volunteer in my community, I have provided similar support to local organizations, with my work ranging from creating fundraising campaigns and consulting on board/governance issues, to developing strategic plans and events. I have served on the boards of such organizations as the Ensemble Studio Theatre; New York Regional Association of Grantmakers (aka Philanthropy New York); the Rachel Coalition (domestic violence agency); and Jewish Family Service of MetroWest, NJ.

EDUCATION

I have a Master’s in Public Administration from the Robert Wagner School of Public Service, New York University, and a Bachelor of Arts in American Studies from Rutgers University.
